Evaluate the Full Environmental Impact of Your Products
Our LCA module enables organisations to assess cradle-to-grave environmental impacts, identify hotspots, and make data-driven eco-design decisions. Aligned to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
Why It Matters
What you get with Life Cycle Assessment
Product Carbon Footprint
Calculate the full lifecycle carbon footprint of any product or service against ISO 14067.
Eco-Design Support
Identify material and process alternatives that reduce environmental burden without compromising performance.
Virtual Twin Modelling
Model product lifecycle changes before implementation to forecast environmental outcomes.
Comparative Analysis
Compare current vs. alternative product designs side-by-side with impact breakdown by lifecycle stage.
In Depth
How Life Cycle Assessment works
The ISO 14040/14044 Four-Phase Framework
ECOT's LCA module is built to the internationally recognised ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards, which define the methodology for conducting and reporting life cycle assessments. The Goal and Scope Definition phase establishes the study's purpose, its functional unit — the reference basis against which all environmental impacts are expressed — and its system boundary, determining which upstream and downstream processes fall within scope. The Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) phase involves the collection and quantification of all inputs and outputs for every unit process within the system boundary. The Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) phase translates inventory data into environmental impact indicators across categories including climate change (GWP100), ozone depletion, particulate matter formation, eutrophication, and resource depletion. The Interpretation phase synthesises findings, identifies significant issues, and draws conclusions appropriate to the study's declared goal.
Product Carbon Footprint and ISO 14067
A Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) is a focused application of LCA methodology concerned exclusively with climate change impact, quantified in kg CO₂e per functional unit. PCF studies follow ISO 14067, which builds on the broader LCA framework to provide detailed requirements for greenhouse gas accounting at the product level. ECOT automates the primary calculation workflow — from process-level energy consumption and material inputs through transportation, waste treatment, and use-phase emissions — producing a traceable, externally verifiable PCF that can substantiate Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), support compliance with Green Public Procurement criteria, and underpin product-level carbon labelling programmes.
Eco-Design and Circular Economy Applications
The primary strategic value of LCA in product development lies in its capacity to identify environmental hotspots before they become embedded in commercial products at scale. ECOT's virtual twin modelling capability allows design and engineering teams to evaluate alternative material selections, manufacturing process configurations, end-of-life treatment pathways, and logistics options — comparing their full environmental profiles in real time against a baseline design. This transforms LCA from a retrospective compliance exercise into a forward-looking decision-support tool that can systematically reduce a product's environmental burden across its entire lifecycle, directly informing circular economy strategies and sustainable procurement policies.
